Nominated for International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year in 2018, Ms. Furtado has earned recognition as one of the most exciting new artists in the progressive acoustic music scene. Her band features bassist Max Johnson (Molly Tuttle); noted Asheville-based guitarist Drew Matulich (Billy Strings) and her sister, violinist Malia Furtado, director of education at The Front Porch Music School in Charlottesville. Tickets: $20, free for children 12 and younger with adults.

The Fauquier County Department of Parks and Recreation event will feature a rock climbing wall, live music, games, crafts, food trucks, face painting and more. Free admission.
Astronomy for Everyone
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28
Sky Meadows State Park

An evening of space exploration begins with a half-hour “Junior Astronomer” program for children 5 to 12. Volunteer Ambassadors of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab will make a half-hour multimedia presentation on the latest in the United States’ space research. Then, participants will take advantage of Sky Meadows’ dark skies by looking at deep space objects through telescopes provided by volunteers. Feel free to bring your scope or binoculars. Free program. Park admission: $10 per vehicle.

Mr. Goffee, who just finished a tour in Europe, has earned acclaim for his Johnny Cash tribute show. Tickets: $25 in advance, $30 at the door, free for children younger than 5.
