Astronomy Days returns to the NC Museum of Natural Sciences – WRAL News
Astronomy Days is back at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh on Saturday January 28 and Sunday January 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. This year’s theme is Humans in Space: Past, Present, and Future.
From rockets, exoplanets and telescopes to crafts and activities, you’ll find something for space enthusiasts of all ages at this free event.
NASA Astronaut Christina Hammock Koch will be speaking in the WRAL Theater on her experiences on the International Space Station where she set the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman, a total of 328 days in space. Koch is an alumna of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham and NC State where she earned multiple degrees in electrical engineering and physics.
In addition to Koch’s programs, there will be more than three dozen other talks throughout the weekend on topics including the James Webb Space Telescope, radio astronomy, Mars exploration, commercial spaceflight, asteroids and even aliens.
I’ll be speaking on both days on the upcoming solar eclipses and a look back at astronomy events in 2022 and a look forward to 2023.
Representatives from NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA will be on hand to share more about the Artemis program along with other space exploration and aeronautics research going on across the agency.
Astronomy clubs from Raleigh and Chapel Hill, physics and astronomy departments from universities across the state, and others will have demonstrations, and displays, and interactive activities.
