Making Astronomy Accessible – Door County Pulse
The DPAS offers indoor planetarium shows during inclement weather. Submitted.
The Door Peninsula Astronomical Society (DPAS) and Crossroads at Big Creek have received a grant from the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium for a project called Making Astronomy Accessible, which seeks to “bring the stars within reach.” This project supplements the society’s meetings, which are held monthly on the first Tuesday, and its viewing nights.
After acquiring a research-grade telescope, a planetarium with a digital projection system, and a cadre of volunteers, Crossroads and the DPAS are in the position to offer an array of astronomical outreach programs to the public, students and those affiliated with parks and youth groups. Such programs are easiest to provide at the Astronomy Campus or Collins Learning Center, but the DPAS and Crossroads are able to offer them in classrooms, libraries and other public meeting places.
Pick up a brochure listing some of the most popular activities at Crossroads at Big Creek’s Collins Learning Center, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, or email [email protected] with “Astronomy” in the subject line.
